Two Fixtures Over Two Days for our AKS Hockey Boys

Mon 25/11 U13 Boys Hockey v Bolton School U14

With most of our team playing their first ever hockey fixture, our aim was to play our best and enjoy the experience. Playing 3 x 15 min periods, we set about contesting at every opportunity and playing a positive attacking style of hockey. Toby C led the way and put us on the board by scoring early and then again in the second period. Jigyanshu N and Oliver H made big contributions at the back, playing an important role, ensuring that no easy entries were gained.  Hugo F scored to put our noses in front once again while Josh B, Jay B and Max C ran hard through the midfield - both into attack and got back to pressure in defence.  Jacob B was determined in goal and kept us in the game with some excellent saves. Our worthy opposition showed skill and character to continue coming back to tie the match from behind - we needed a special last effort.  James D and Edward S were fantastic impact players, driving us forward with Ed scoring the winning goal with only 2 minutes left on the clock.

A wonderful team effort and a most enjoyable match - congratulations to all involved.

Tues 26/11 U14 Boys Hockey v Bolton School Mixed

Our team was not short on motivation - the dressing room keen to make the most of their first game together. This fixture was a fantastic opportunity for our players to experience a competitive match and play in different positions. It was wonderful to see our players bouncing around the field, running hard into attack and working together as a defensive unit. Our positive style of play led to several opportunities for shots, with George G and Harry B creating some good chances. Cameron M was excellent in goal and though was not busy, made some very important saves to keep our sheet clean. Thomas O and Jake T made some excellent plays to move the ball forward up the wings, whilst Noah M, Edward H and Max G were reliable players all day.

The match was evenly fought throughout and a special effort was needed to break the deadlock.  AKS went up 1-0 when Harry B crossed into Jeremy N who hit the back of the net. A rapturous celebration followed, with a crowd of students cheering us on from the sideline.  Relishing his chance to play in his favoured up-front position, Ben L put his stamp on the game when he sealed the 2-0 victory with a skilful, no-look reverse stick drag which beat the Bolton keeper.

A fantastic performance by our team and great to see our students following their passions for sport.
