End of term matches against Carr Hill and LSA

The last week of term was busy for our AKS Year 7 A and B team netball teams with matches against Carr Hill and Lytham.

Against Carr Hill the A team dominated from the starting whistle with Kirtika dominating the centre of the court and linking superbly with Sasha at GA to take AKS into an early lead. Carr Hill did break at times and put pressure on Layla at GD and Lucy at GK but they did a great job of stopping the Carr Hill shooters getting close to the post causing a great deal of frustration. AKS did not let up in the second half and continued to produce some slick centre court play. Connie and Kirtika kept the score moving along with accurate shooting and at the final whistle the score was 17 – 1 to AKS. Sasha was named as ‘Player of the match’

The B team also played Carr Hill and enjoyed a good win. The team played fast accurate netball with Lola dictating play from the centre position. Freya shot well under pressure and at half time we had a comfortable lead. The second half saw everyone dodge well to get free and we enjoyed the lion’s share of the possession. A strong defensive performance from Carrera made it difficult for Carr Hill to get many clear scoring opportunities and good defending by all the team helped to seal the victory. The final score was 15-9.

The following day both teams again took to the court against local rivals Lytham. After previous defeats we knew a tough game lay ahead and so it proved to be. AKS A team were not intimidated by the previous score and started strong to take an early lead. Lytham soon got into their stride however and started to play some excellent netball to close the gap and finish the first half 4-7 down. The second half saw Lytham raise the level of their play and Lucy and Layla worked hard to prevent the LSA attackers into the circle. Despite the best efforts of all the team the quick accurate Lytham team began to dominate and they went ahead before the final whistle with the final score being 8 – 14. Lucy and Layla’s work rate was rewarded by them being awarded the player of the match awards.

The B team also faced Lytham and they too had a tough game. Lytham played fast and accurate netball and with confident, accurate shooters they went into an early lead. AKS defenders Carrera and Evangeline were put under constant pressure but worked hard to prevent the Lytham shooters from scoring. Lola worked hard to link our attack and defence and WA Niamh fed the ball into the circle. Shooters Laura and Freya worked hard to create scoring opportunities but unfortunately due to the pressure of the LSA defenders found it hard to find the net. The final score was 3-13 and ‘Player of the Match’ was Lola.
