Year 8 Charlotte wins Fylde & Wyre Schools Sports Partnership hockey challenge

PUBLISHED 24 May 2020

During the continued restrictions on team sports talented Year 8 hockey player Charlotte  is not letting the lack of competitive hockey blunt her enthusiasm or her desire to get to the top.

Over the past 9 weeks Charlotte has been doing an intensive fitness programme involving running, speed sessions and shuttle sessions but she has also taking on the many skills challenges set by international players like Calum Giles and England U18 Assistant Coach Jimmy Culnane . Practices have involved a range of hockey skills including dragging the ball from left to right, 3D skills and vision exercises all within her own home and garden.

Her latest success has been in the local hockey challenge set by the Fylde & Wyre School Sports Partnership. The challenge was to keep tapping a ball up for as long as possible without it falling to the ground using a hockey stick, plank of wood or other bat. Anyone could enter and each individual could have as many attempts as they wanted but had to submit video of their best performance to Lee Cadwallader , Fylde & Wyre SSP organiser. 60 youngsters from across the Fylde Coast attempted the challenge and Charlotte was announced as the winner with an impressive top time of 3mins 39seconds.

Charlotte received her certificate and looks forward to receiving her winners prize of a Spar Lancashire School Games water bottle, PE bag and a Spar Lancashire School Games T-shirt!

Like all aspiring top athletes Charlotte is planning to continue her training programme and skills practices at home and will look forward to joining up with her teammates at AKS and getting back into action on the pitch whenever she can.
