Overview
After last year's success, our Pre-A level Programme continues this summer, running for a two-week period following GCSE examinations. The construction of the programme is tailored to students' A level choices and includes a variety of enrichment opportunities to expand their learning and interests.
The programme provides a strong foundation for the academic rigour of A levels by encouraging students to be inquisitive, scholarly and committed.
Structure
Preparing for A level/BTEC courses
Students will attend three sessions a week for each of their A level subject choices. The courses comprise a combination of teaching, tutorials, and independent study to reflect Sixth Form.
Enrichment sessions
The enrichment sessions will focus on practical life skills, building employability and other areas of interest beyond the curriculum, including a leadership challenge.
Wider experiences
In addition, students will be provided with additional options to further their interests, including TED Talks and MOOCs (massive open online courses) provided by a number of prestigious universities around the world.
Careers and options support
During this period of exploration, students will also able to schedule one-to-one sessions with Mr Maund for careers guidance and/or A level options.
What to expect
The programme will be delivered in mornings-only, allowing students to leave at 1pm, or remain for lunch in our pavilion cafe; Wednesday games afternoons continue for those who wish to participate in sport; students will have exclusive use of the Sixth Form common room throughout the Pre-A level Programme.
