It was a very special day at AKS as we welcomed not only 6 athletics teams from Lytham High School to take part in an athletics match but also spectators on the sidelines for the first time since the start of the pandemic!! Over 150 boys and girls from the two schools provided the spectators with a superb evening of athletics as there were some great performances in the field events and some superb races on the track.

Star performer on the day was Yr 10 Captain Maddie B who led her team superbly with two record breaking runs in the 800m & 1500m. A winning time of 5 minutes 22.8 sec in the 1500m smashed the old record by 10 seconds and she then followed this up with a second win in a time of 2minutes 41.7 seconds in the 800m, another school record. Zara F  was 2nd in the race and recorded a personal best time of 3minutes 03.8 secs.

Another record breaker was talented Year 7 athlete Amelia H who broke the Year 7 Hurdles and 100m record with superb times of 12.7s and 14.3s respectively while in the field Lilly G set an AKS Year 7 Javelin record with a throw of 13.30m

There were also a host of wins and personal bests for many athletes including Carly W in the Yr9/10 200m ( 29.7s), Olivia M in the Long Jump ( 4.50m) and Evie F in the Javelin (21.10m). The Year 8 Boys competition was closely contested with AKS coming out on top by just 3 points. The Year 8 girls also enjoyed success with talented athlete Lalya W bagging a hat-trick of top finishes in the 100m ( 14.3s) 200m ( 31.0s) and shot putt ( 7.73m) while  Lisa P  secured two wins in the Hurdles ( 14.3s ) and 800m ( 2m45.3s) and a second place in the Javelin ( 16.50m ). In the field AKS provided both High Jump winners in Hannah A  ( 1.15m) and Henry R  ( 1.20m).  Henry also triumphed in the Long Jump ( 4.20m) along with Charlotte L  ( 4.05m) and Cody B won the Javelin ( 20.45m) with Ethan B  winning the shot ( 5.96m )

Overall it was fantastic to see the school field buzzing with young athletes from AKS and Lytham all enjoying competing and giving of their best in every event. The event could not have been staged without the tremendous efforts of the staff from both schools and it was a superb collaboration to provide this competition for both pupils and spectators to enjoy.
