AKS Round Square Leadership Team

Introducing our new Round Square Team

Introducing our new Round Square Team

PUBLISHED 28 June 2021

Mrs Marland, Assistant Head of Staff and Student Development

I am delighted to announce the development of a new Round Square Team in the Senior School which will build on the sterling work undertaken by Miss De Miranda over the past few years. These three roles have come about after looking at where we currently are as a Round Square school and where we would like to see ourselves in 5 years’ time. Mr Donovan will become the Round Square Representative, with Mrs Grant becoming the Round Square Service and Community Co-ordinator and Mr Collings becoming the Round Square Collaborations Co-ordinator.

From September, the newly appointed team will be led by Mr Donovan, the Round Square Representative, who will champion the Round Square philosophy throughout the school and ensure that, as a school, we deliver on the annual affirmations we set ourselves each year. Mr Donovan will be the face and the voice of all things Round Square. He will become the guardian of Round Square at AKS and represent AKS at all things Round Square. Mr Donovan will be accountable for the IDEALS, ensuring as a school we are authentic in how they are stitched through the fabric of all we do. A big part of the role will be to liaise with other Round Square Representatives, especially those from within our very own Europe and the Mediterranean region. After his appointment, Mr Donovan explained, “I would like to see every student being given an opportunity to develop skills and knowledge that we help them to self-generate individual qualities to flourish in our global community."

As a school, we have identified specific areas which we want to invest a little more heavily in, we want our school to be internationally outward facing, with service-learning at the heart of what we do. With that in mind we have developed two new roles, the Round Square Service and Community Co-ordinator and the Round Square Collaborations Co-ordinator.

Mrs Grant will become the Round Square Service and Community Co-ordinator and will be responsible for the further development of service learning at AKS; to provide students across the Senior School with an understanding of what having a spirit of service truly means. She will seek to strengthen our provision by creating a service and community pathway aligned with the current co-curricular and newly formed academic enrichment strand. It includes overseeing the progress and development of all our current student-led action groups as well as the introduction of new ones which will raise awareness through ethical service on current issues, locally, nationally and globally. Mrs Grant will also be the keeper of the annual fundraising overview, ensuring the school delivers on its commitments to our community partners, she explained, "My goal, through collaboration with the AKS community, both near and far, is to embed the Spirit of Service into our everyday lives, so it becomes second nature”.

Mr Collings will become the Round Square Collaborations Co-ordinator and will be responsible for all international collaborations across the Senior School to provide opportunities to be more internationally outward facing. This job is all about truly getting to know the best schools around the world and their RS Representatives. Mr Collings will then seek to find the right opportunities for AKS through setting up collaborations which will be mutually beneficial and allow students (and staff) to share ideas and perspectives with schools across the globe. Mr Collings will be responsible for developing a fully functioning exchange programme, obviously when the time is right, allowing our school to host international students and give our own students the chance to repeat this experience. He explained, "The collaboration opportunities for our students within the Round Square community are limitless; 200 schools in 50 countries, all keen to provide global understanding and shared learning experiences."

As Assistant Head of Staff and Student Development, I will continue to give direction and support to the Round Sqaure Team and associated initiatives. I want to ensure we continue to provide endless opportunities for all our students and staff to enable them to become the very best version of themselves.
