The year 7 geography residential has, after not taking place in 2020, returned to the school calendar. Once again, the year 7 students returned to Ingleton to undertake a series of activities and exercises that built on the academic teaching they had received during the year.

A trip to Yordas cave in Kingsdale allowed the students to fully appreciate the formation of limestone and its many features. It also meant new challenges could be attempted underground that meant teamwork skills came to the fore. Some students certainly showed their ability to embrace new challenges and thrive as a result, albeit getting wet and muddy in the process. The waterfalls walk to Thornton Force and back through Beezeley Falls meant the students could fully appreciate the power of water in creating and modifying the landscape. Unfortunately, due to the warm dry weather, the waterfalls were not showing their true destructive power!

A study of Ingleton to ascertain whether it is a tourist village and a survey of Barkin Beck, a tributary of the River Lune, meant the students were able to gain new geographical skills in collecting and analysing data from real world situations.

Throughout the week the students have built and enhanced friendships; they have challenged themselves and achieved more than they could have imagined through supportive teamwork, and have flourished in a different, outdoor setting. The accompanying staff, without whom this trip could not run, have commented on what good company the students were throughout the week and I for one and certainly looking forward to the trip next year!
