The AKS Futures Fair on Wednesday 20th November 2024, provided an invaluable opportunity for students and parents to explore a wide range of pathways for life after school. The event, hosted at AKS, brought together representatives from universities, apprenticeship providers and employers, alongside expert talks tailored to support students in making informed decisions about their futures.
The evening began with a series of engaging presentations in the Sixth Form Common Room, kicking off with Understanding UCAS, led by Mr. Collings, AKS UCAS Coordinator. This session provided clarity on the 2026 UCAS application process, including the benefits of attending open days and adhering to internal deadlines. This was followed by a detailed Introduction to Oxbridge by Nick O’Loughlin, AKS Oxbridge Coordinator, who outlined what Oxford and Cambridge universities look for in applicants and how AKS supports students aiming for these institutions.
Meanwhile, the Library hosted an insightful talk with representatives from BAE Systems who shared information about their Aerospace and Submarines apprenticeship programmes.
The Senior School Hall buzzed with activity as exhibitors from over 30 organisations—including universities like Nottingham Trent, Queen’s University Belfast and Manchester, as well as companies like BAE Systems, NHS, and Thompsons & Hardwick Optometrists—offered advice and information. Students and parents had the chance to speak directly with representatives, gaining insights into various industries and academic pathways.
Refreshments were served in the Sixth Form Common Room throughout the evening, offering attendees the opportunity to network and reflect on the wealth of information shared during the event.
The AKS Futures Fair not only showcased the breadth of opportunities available to students but also reinforced AKS’s commitment to providing exceptional guidance and support as they take their next steps into higher education, apprenticeships and careers.
Stay tuned for future events as we continue to inspire and empower our students to pursue their passions and fulfil their potential.
