Whilst their classmates took a well-earned break, it has been a busy summer for six of AKS Lytham’s talented cricketers. Felix T, Finn R, Rory U, Alfie K, Xavier D and Freddie B were all selected to represent the Northern Premier League/Palace Shield representative teams, to face off against other leagues from around Lancashire throughout the summer.
Freddie B played up a year level in the U13s, impressing with his wicket-keeping and doing well with his limited chances with the bat.
Xavier D earned the honour of captaining the U13 team and had a standout performances against Rossendale, making 33 and taking 2 wickets as well as seeing his side home in a tight game against the Greater Manchester League.
Alfie K represented the U14s, earning his opportunity through outstanding performances including a century in senior cricket.
Finn R had a good all-round tournament in the U15s, contributing with wickets, runs and was one of the standout fielders of the tournament.
Felix T also represented the U15s, making consistent runs in a successful team that won 3 out of its 4 matches.
Rory U opened the bowling for the U15 team and also contributed with the bat, with a top score of 54. Rory’s performances also earned him ‘Team of the Tournament’ selection, which gave him the opportunity to compete against the Lancashire County Team.
For some, it was their first taste of representative cricket, for others it was a chance to develop and impress by showing off their skills in the prestigious competition. All of them earned their opportunities at the next level through their performances and they are to be commended on their hard work and dedication to their development through the programmes at school and with their respective clubs.
The hard work for 2023 has already begun, with all the players engaging in a structured winter programme at AKS Lytham to propel them into another successful season.
