PUBLISHED 09 June 2022

Each year, we nominate several students for the Best in Everyone Awards which are open to over 93 schools in the United Learning group of schools, to which we belong. The awards not only enable us to celebrate excellence within our school, but also at a national level. We are delighted to announce that Henry (Year 7) has won the award for Music (Performance).

The award ceremony will take place at a black-tie gala dinner for students, their families and school representatives, on 24th June at the Queen's Hotel, Leeds.

Mr Waterhouse, Director of Performing Arts, explained what makes Henry a worthy winner:

"Henry is a truly gifted and intuitive young performer, and despite being in Senior School for less than a year he has made a considerable impact in the performing arts department. He is diligent and hardworking, committing fully to his craft.

Most recently, Henry tackled the eponymous role of ‘Oliver!’ in this year’s school musical. He was not fazed by the task ahead at all and attended rehearsals with confidence and a level-head, beyond the typical attitude of a year seven performer. Henry showed resilience and tenacity, producing sublime performances across all four shows. He was able to perform with a beautiful balance of humility, bravery and pathos, and his voice was a revelation to many in the school. Henry’s hard work led to him receiving a wonderful review from the local paper: ‘[his] first entrance as Oliver stills and silences the audience… He is a proper little lad, not merely cute, throughout his five-star performance.’

Henry has impressed everyone who has seen him perform with his confidence and natural ability. This, paired with his mature work ethic, has paved the way for an incredibly bright future at AKS".

Congratulations Henry!
