What is the Headmaster’s Lecture Series?

As part of our academic enrichment programme, we are introducing the ‘Headmaster’s Lecture Series’, in which we invite inspiring and thought-provoking speakers to expose our students to fascinating topics ranging across the academic sphere, and beyond the confines of the normal curriculum.

The lecture series provides an opportunity for our school and the wider community to attend these events which have a different academic focus each term.

Following the success of our inaugural lecture, with Susie Dent, last November, we are delighted to announce that Monty Halls, naturalist and biologist, will deliver the second lecture of this academic year on Thursday 21st April at 7.00pm in the Senior School Hall.

Who is Monty Halls?

Monty Halls is a naturalist, marine biologist, broadcaster, and travel writer. Following a career as an Officer in the Marines, he qualified as a marine biologist.

He is now best known for his three BBC2 series, ‘Great Escapes’; the multi-award-winning series, ‘Great Barrier Reef’ and Channel 4’s ‘My Family and the Galapagos’. He also worked on the ground-breaking expedition series ‘Lost Worlds’ for the Discovery Channel.

Has been awarded the British Medal for services to exploration by the Scientific Exploration Society, including the discovery of a sunken city off the Indian Coast; investigations into poaching activity in Malawi and a search for evidence of prehistoric settlements in cave systems in South Africa.

Monty has written several books and is a regular contributor to magazines and newspapers about the natural world. He is also an ambassador for various conservation groups in addition to his Presidency of the Galapagos Conservation Trust and has been awarded an honorary Doctorate by Plymouth University.

What will Monty be talking about?

Monty will be sharing his passion for and insights about marine biology, the natural world, natural-history and the environment.
