Year 7 Tennis Teams Triumph

Blue skies and sunshine provided the perfect weather for tennis on Saturday as AKS hosted Rhydal Penrhos , Colwyn Bay and Lancaster Girls Grammar and the visitors were treated to a ‘Wimbledon style’ day of tennis with some matches played on the school’s grass courts and everyone enjoying strawberries and cream afterwards.

It was a festival of tennis and the Year 7 team continued their winning start to the season with two more impressive victories. The first match against Rhydal Penrhos saw 9 girls rotate in three couples and once again they proved too strong for their opponents winning the match 8 sets to 1. Top group of Maddie B, Maddy R and Zara B won all three sets dropping only two games with some accurate serving and consistent groundstrokes. Katie T, Eloise B and Poppy B also impressed with three wins overcoming the Rhydal 1st pair 3 – 1 whilst not conceding a game against the 2nd & 3rd pairs and Georgina B, Ava N & Amelie L won two sets to complete an impressive final scoreline.

The second match against Lancaster Girls Grammar saw 15 girls take to the courts and once again play some great tennis. All the girls have practised hard since the start of the term and this is paying off as everyone is developing more power and accuracy to both their serves and their groundstrokes. The A team had some close and exciting matches but in the final reckoning we came out on top by just  two sets 5.5 to 3.5. Top couple Amelie S & Lucy B remained undefeated and had a superb tussle against Lancaster’s top pair with every point hard fought and at the end of the rubber the pairs could not be separated with a score of 3 games each. They proved too strong for the Lancaster 2nd & 3rd pairs winning 5 – 1 and 5 – 0 respectively. Second couple Patsy C and Beth R won two of their matches defeating both Lancaster 2nd & 3rd couples 3 – 1 and Maddie B and Olivia M completed the win with a 6 – 0 win over Lancaster 3rd pair.

The B team of 9 girls enjoyed a superb 8 sets to 1 win against Lancaster Girls B team. Top performing group were Poppy B and Eloise B who got better and better as the day progressed and played some great tennis to record three wins, 5 -1,4 – 0 and 6 – 1. Ava N, Amelie L and Georgina B also won all their games but had close matches against Lancaster 2nd and 3rd couples winning by one game in both while Maddy R, Zara B and Katie T completed the winning games defeating the Lancaster first couple 4 – 2 and 3rd pair 2 – 1.

Overall a superb day of tennis enjoyed by everyone!
