Tennis is proving popular with year 10 pupils at AKS and a B team travelled to Baines for a friendly fixture and enjoyed some close and exciting matches.
Lucy Rowe and Emma Lowther teamed up and their first game could not have been closer with many games going to deuce before being decided. The final score reflected how well matched the pairs were and at 2 – 2 they could not be separated. Gaining in experience and confidence the pair then played superbly to win their second match 4 – 2.
Lucy Payne teamed up with Shannon Rimmer-Eastwood, making her debut for the school tennis team, and they also enjoyed some close games and improved both the power and consistency of their strokes as the games progressed. Lucy demonstrated consistent groundstrokes to make Baines have to work hard for their points and Shannon’s serve gained greater consistency and direction as the match progressed. Despite losing both games 2 – 5 and 2 – 4 the girls enjoyed the game and are motivated to practise harder to further improve the standard of their play.
All the girls enjoyed the games and are looking forward to a re- match later in the term.
