Year 10 netball crowned league champions
AKS Year 10 netball are celebrating being crowned Fylde & Wyre U15 South League Champions after another superb win against St.Bedes.
Knowing a win would see us lift the league title we started nervously and the first few minutes was frantic with both teams winning and losing
possession frequently. We did score first and went into a three goal lead thanks to great shooting from Captain Ellie S but St.Bedes then got
onto the scoresheet themselves. As the half progressed we slowly started to gain more pattern to our play and work the ball down the court
more effectively and we extended our lead. Great defending from Amelia C and Mia W made it difficult for the St.Bedes shooters to get close
to the post and when their shots went off target Amelia used her height well to regain possession. Our centre pass tactics worked well with
Anna H using the space effectively and always being available for the second pass and we moved the ball into the circle with ease where
Ruby W and Ellie S converted to take us into a half time lead 12-6.
Despite a 6 goal lead we knew we could play better netball and the second half saw us raise our level of performance and play superbly.
Improved spacing on the court, passing and dodging by all the team saw us keep possession well and move the ball down the court superbly.
Great movement in the circle from Charlotte A and Ellie S saw then work the ball close to the post where they duly converted to keep increasing
our lead and with a second half which saw us score 11 whilst limiting St.Bedes to just one goal the final score was 23-7. Ellie S was voted the
player of the match by St.Bedes but Anna H for her efficient, controlled play and Charlotte A for her excellent movement in the circle and
shooting were also voted best players.
The second half performance demonstrated the progress the team have made this season and having remained undefeated throughout the
term they are deservedly crowned league champions.
The Year 9 team also faced St.Bedes and after the draw in the last game the teams were very evenly matched. Missing a couple of players,
however, the team knew the game was going to be tough and so it proved to be.The first half saw the teams again very close with one team
easing ahead only to be pegged back by the other. Prisha R worked incredibly hard in the centre to link defence and attack and she linked
well with Gabriella F, Alicia I and Abbey F to create scoring opportunities. Eleanor L, Amy P and Lucy B, making her debut for the A team,
worked hard in defence and at half time the score was 6-8.
After the break St.Bedes started the better and edged a few more goals ahead early on. This saw us lose confidence and structure to our play
and we started to give possession away too easily and St.Bedes punished us by converting the possession into more goals. Depsite our best
efforts St.Bedes now in confident mood stated to dodge and pass more effectively and at the final whistle they had extended their lead to 9-18.
Prisha R , with another hardworking performance , was voted as Player of the match.
