Tough Year 7 netball matches against Lytham

The year 7 A and B team faced local rivals LSA in what was to be expected the biggest challenge so far in their season. The A team saw debuts from Sophie F and Zoe B due to regular players being unavailable. LSA started strongly and Priyanka R was kept very busy in defence with Jessica A working exceptionally hard to try and defend and get the ball up court. Lytham moved the ball quickly and accurately down the courts and the first half score reflected a shell shocked AKS 1-11. At half time a change of positions saw Eleanor C switching to GD from her usual GS position to try and limit Lytham’s scoring opportunities and it made an instant difference.  With Eleanor C’s natural height and her ability to read the game and consistent defending from Pryakna R the team found a new ease of life. Holly W took the challenge of the Centre position working tirelessly to keep with a very experienced LSA opponent. Opportunities to score started to appear and Charlotte T took each with confidence and was not put off by the physicality of the LSA GD. After a much improved second half the final score was 17-4 to Lytham. Player of the match was Pryianka R.

With many squad members making their debut tonight AKS B team started with enthusiasm. Josyana and Caitlin making up a very solid defence. The centre court players Holly B, Maisy R and Sophie W worked tirelessly to feed Katie S and Grace H to create many shooting opportunities. Although trailing 6-4 at half time the AKS B team were upbeat about a solid first half. The second half saw Amber, Lilly and Ameile B play their first league match this season. A very pleasing performance from all but a special mention to Amelie B who showed quick reactions in intercepting many Lytham passes. The fight continued and AKS had levelled the score 8-8 with Grace H and Katie S shooting accurately. One minute to the final whistle LSA took the lead and time ran out for the AKS with the final score 8-9. Player of the match was Katie S.
