Three wins for Junior Hockey teams against Kirkham & Sedbergh

A beautiful autumn day set the scene for an excellent morning of hockey as  AKS U11A played hosts to Kirkham and Sedbergh. In their first game the U11s started a little tentatively against a positive Kirkham side, but soon settled into their confident passing mode, which culminated in a good finish from Kirtika S. AKS continued to dominate, restricting Kirkham to few chances. They finished the game on top with a second goal from Kirtika S and another from Captain Lisa P to come out 3 – 0 winners.

Sedbergh, fresh from a positive victory over Kirkham, gave AKS a different challenge being more physical and direct than previous opposition. AKS dug deep and continued to play as a unit passing the ball about with confidence. The defence, led by Layla W, coped well with Sedbergh’s long ball game. The game remained goalless for a long time until Lisa Perry finally broke the deadlock with a well taken corner. In spite of some strong challenges AKS persisted in their passing game, defence and attack linking well, leading to a well taken goal by Kirtika S. After returning to the pitch following an injury, Lisa P, leading by example, touched in a great ball from Kirtika S to make 3 – 0 before leaving the pitch with a head injury. The team battled hard, only conceding with the last hit of the game. The girls should take great confidence from such an impressive performance, demonstrating excellent teamwork and tremendous tenacity. A solid team effort, the team being Niamh M, Esther T, Sophia M, Connie S, Layla W, Ruby C, Lucy W, Lisa P and Kirtika S, each playing a vital role.

The U9s, fresh from their successful trip to Stonyhurst, continued their winning ways with a confident win against an inexperienced Sedbergh side. They are starting to get the idea of spreading play and building the game from the back. AKS also got a chance to play in different positions and understand the requirements of various roles. Camilla C is developing into an instinctive finisher with 6 more goals, supported by all-rounder Zoe C with 2 goals and tenacious Gracie G also with 2. Shelby Q continues to improve as a goal keeper and Anna V is showing potential. Sophia M and Anika R are growing in confidence with every game and Amelie C is proving to be a tenacious tackler. U9s a team for the future.

With three victories against strong opposition the future looks bright for the Junior hockey players of AKS.
