It was a superb afternoon of netball as 42 Year 7 girls travelled to Ripley St Thomas Lancaster to play their first competitive netball matches for AKS senior school.
With training being so well attended since the beginning of term all the girls were given the opportunity to play regardless of experience or expertise and what they lacked here they made up with buckets of enthusiasm to travel to Ripley. We fielded 6 teams and all played well and learnt along the way from all the staff and the Ripley 6th form pupils who also offered support to all the girls.
The A - D teams all played full matches with outstanding performances from all.
The A team played superbly and won comfortably with a 9-1 score thanks to so exceptional shooting from Eleanor C and great defending from Priyanka R and Evie F who made it hard for Ripley to get a shot away.
The B team drew 1-1, after an evenly matched game. The team worked well together with strong performances from Holly B and Gracie C in central court positions.
The C team dominated possession in the first half but struggled to find the net. Katie Slone found her rhythm in the second half and led AKS to a 6 – 0 victory with support from Eleanor C. There was also a great performance in defence from Caitlin C who showed a cool head when Ripley were on the attack and made it difficult for the Ripley shooters to convert any of their chances.
The D team didn't disappoint and made it three wins out of four. They fought hard to exploit the space on the court and passed the ball well to each other. AKS were quick and dodged well showing great tenacity to finish with a 5-2 victory. Great team play from all.
The E & F teams enjoyed their first competitive match with the E team just losing out 2 – 4 after a closely fought game while the D team lost 0 – 6.
Overall a superb afternoon of netball enjoyed by both Ripley and AKS Year 7 netballers.
