For most hockey players the season is just beginning but it has been a busy summer for AKS pupils Mollie M and Emily P who have been involved in international and regional hockey tournaments respectively.
Mollie who was a member of the England U18 Hockey squad last year, despite only being 16, gained valuable experience with a series of tough international matches over the summer. Two victories over Scotland 8 – 0 and 3 - 0 were followed with much tougher tests against Germany and Belgium. A three test series against Germany saw the England U18 severely tested with two narrow 2 – 3 losses and a 1 – 5 loss. Matches against Belgium were also keenly contested and once again the team narrowly lost 3 – 4 and 2 – 4 but the experience Mollie gained saw her continue to develop as a player and last week she was rewarded for her hard work and progress with her inclusion in the England U18 Training Squad for the coming 2019 season. Mollie will now start the year with training camps at the Lilleshall National Sports Centre over the coming months with her aim to once again gain selection for the England U18 team to play next year.
Mollie will be joined at Lilleshall by Emily P who after celebrating not only being selected for the Pennine Pumas but also picking up a silver medal at the Futures Cup her year got even better when she was named in the England U16 Training Squad for the first time. Her international call-up comes as a reward for her hard work on and off the pitch which has seen her improve tremendously both technically and tactically and she will now take part in a programme of weekend England training camps with her ultimate goal to gain selection for England U16 next year.
Everyone at AKS congratulates Mollie and Emily on their tremendous achievements and we wish them both the best of luck in the forthcoming training camps.
