Lytham provide tough opposition for Year 9 Netball teams.

AKS Year 9 Netball teams faced tough opposition in their second fixture in the Fylde & Wyre League in the form of local rivals Lytham High School.

The Ateam, missing several regular players through injury, started slowly and allowed Lytham to go into an early lead with fast accurate movement and passing. We gradually gained more structure to our play with Prisha R working hard in the centre of the court to link our attack and defence and everyone dodging more effectively but at half time Lytham had extended their lead to 10 - 2.

After the break we improved both our marking and our spacing on the court and started to play more accurate and controlled netball and enjoy more possession. Captain Alex M and Ziv W worked hard in our defensive circle to make it difficult for the Lytham shooters to create as many scoring opportunities. With improved dodging from all the team we worked the ball down the court more effectively to create chances of our own with Alicia I and Abby F working hard to overcome the quick, skilful Lytham defenders. Amy P and Ellie L worked hard in the centre court and our improved second half performance saw us restrict Lytham scoring to just four goals with the final score being 14 - 3 to Lytham. Player of the match was Prisha R for her excellent work rate and dodging throughout the match.

The B team also had a number of changes and it took a while for the team to settle into the game which resulted in possession being given away frequently allowing Lytham to go into an early lead. Kiera K defended well and Liberty D worked hard in centre court but all too often inaccurate passing and poor dodging saw Lytham win back the ball and at half time the score was 1 - 3.

After the break we started to play with more confidence and control and enjoyed a lot more possession. Improved spacing on the court and patterns of passing saw us work the ball down the court with Kiera K, Lucy B and Liberty D linking well and when we did get in the circle good shooting from Annabel K saw us close the gap. Good defending at the other end from Olivia M and Lucy B limited Lytham’s scoring opportunities and after a much improved second half performance we had closed the gap to just two with the final score 4 - 6. Player of the match was Liberty D for her non stop running and excellent dodging.
