Hockey teams finish the term with more good wins against Westholme

AKS hockey teams finished the term in great form with four four wins and a draw against Westholme School, Blackburn with the U12A and the U13A team winning to remain undefeated all term.

AKS U15 XI  7  - 2  Westholme U15XI  Scorer: Ruby W(2) Ellie S (2) Ziv W(2) Prisha R POM Prisha R & Anna H

AKS U15 had an excellent match on Saturday against Westholme School finishing the term on a high with a great win. They took control of the game early on putting Westholme under pressure defensively and winning two corners but the Westholme keeper made some good saves to keep the scores level.  We continued to pass the ball well and got reward for our dominant play when Prisha R found Ellie S in front of goal and her decisive touch put it round the keeper to make it 1 – 0.Prisha R got onto the scoresheet herself minutes later to make it 2 – 0 . Playing our best hockey of the season we passed the ball well with Kiera B, Emily T and Prisha R linking well to dominate on the right but a breakaway saw Westholme score to pull the score back to 1 – 2. We continued to pass the ball around well with Hannah T pulling the strings in the middle of the pitch and we got our two goal lead back when Ruby W played a superb pass to Ellie S and she found the net for her second goal and make the half time score 3 – 1.

Westhlome started the second half in the best possible way with a goal in the second minute to make it 2 – 3 but this only motivated us to raise our game and this we did with Ruby W and Ellie S always a threat up front. Good marking from Amy Slawson , Charlotte Asquith and Kiera Bowman made it difficult for Westholme to create many goal scoring opportunities and great positional play and tacking by Anna H frequently won back possession.  A well worked corner routine saw Captain Ruby W get reward for her superb contribution to the game with a goal from a great corner strike to make it 4 – 2. Ruby was on target again minutes later to make it 5 – 2 and a superb individual goal from Ziv W made the score 6 – 2 soon after. With us now dominating possession and passing the ball superbly our final goal was the best of the game as it came from a great move in which Hannah T found Ruby W, her perfectly weighted pass found Ziv W in the circle and she gave the keeper no chance with a shot into the corner to make it a 7 – 2. A great final scoreline which reflected how well we passed the ball and it was a superb way to finish the term. Players of the Match were Prisha R for her driving runs on the right and Anna H for her calm defending at the back.

AKS U14st XI    1  - 1  Westholme U14XI  Scorers: Ziv W  POM Prisha R & Eleanor L

The U14 team enjoyed a close hard fought game against a skilful Westholme side with a draw reflecting how well matched the teams were. We started well with good attacking play from Prisha R, Ziv W and Freya W and went ahead in the 12th minute when Ziv W found the net with a superb reverse shot to make it 1 – 0. Westholme were always dangerous with some fast skilful players and only good defending from Olivia M, Eleanor L, Amy P and Imogen H maintained our lead. Westholme saw a shot fly wide and a great save from Eva E kept our clean sheet and we went into the break with a slender 1 – 0 lead.

After the break Westholme started well and put us under a lot of pressure and they drew level in the 5th minute with a great individual goal to make it 1 – 1. We enjoyed possession of our own with Olivia M, Alicia I and Prisha R attacked well down the right and when Alicia made a great driving run and cross into the circle Holly C was unlucky not to get on the end of it. Laura K worked tirelessly in midfield , Poppy B and Eleanor L worked hard to match the skilful Westholme players in the middle of the pitch. Prisha R bought a fine save from the Westholme keeper and Eleanor L came close from a corner but at the final whistle the scores remained level at 1 – 1 . Players of the match were Prisha R for her dynamic running up front and Eleanor L for her excellent work in midfield.

AKS U13 AVII XI   9  - 0  Westholme U13AVII  POM Beth R

The U13A team played an excellent game against Westholme.  They worked together as a unit and created some great passages of play in the first half.  Eloise B was calm and steady with her tackles in defence clearing the ball wide to both Anna P and Beth R in order to move the ball down the line.  Katie T was able to convert the ball on the left putting AKS in the lead, and scoring a further two goals to claim a  hat trick.  AKS were in a strong lead at half time.  This continued as they moved into the second half, the players worked hard to keep their pressure on Westholme, keeping them in their defensive half for the most part.  This led to an impressive 9-0 win by the final whistle. Player of the match was Beth R.

AKS U13 B VIII    3  - 0  Westholme U13 B VIII   Scorers: Ava N (3)   POM Amelie L

The AKS U13 Hockey team approached their match against Westholme with a very determined manner.  We put the Westholme defence under pressure from the start and were able to win the ball and spread it out wide into the spaces to attack with pace down the right. Ava N opened the scoreline to take us into a 1 – 0 lead.  AKS continued to play the ball around well and  Ava N managed to convert another two attacking passages of play to make it 3-0 at half time.  Westholme came out strong in the second half and put us under some pressure but good defending maintained our clean sheet. Improved defending from Westholme saw them keep AKS at bay and the game finished with a 3 – 0 win to AKS. Player of the match was Amelie L.

AKS U12 A VIII   4  -  0  Westholme U12A VIII   Scorers:  Jessie Al(2) Carley W(2)  POM Daniella H

AKS took a while to settle in their game at Westholme with poor passing meaning that they struggled to keep possession. Once the team began to attack on the right, the game changed, with Eleanor C and Jessica A feeding the ball out wide to Carly W whose pace and skill proved too much for the opposition defence. Midway through the half Jessie A gave AKS the lead with a sweeping shot past the keeper from a Carly W cross. Five minutes later a run and another well placed cross from Carly led to an almost identical goal for Jessie to give AKS a 2-0 lead. It was not all plain sailing for AKS in the first half with Pryanka R having to work hard as sweeper and keeper Daniella H making a crucial save and clearance just before half time.

An improved AKS performance in the second half saw Anna W and Jessica A in control in defence while Anya K used her pace to good effect on the forward line. A spell of good play from both teams saw the AKS defend well under pressure and goalkeeper Daniella H make further good saves. Timely interceptions and surging runs forward from Eleanor C helped AKS get back on top and a fine individual goal from centre Carly W made it 3-0. Evie F gave a confident performance on the right and it was her pass that found Carly W who cleverly beat two defenders before slipping it past the keeper to score her second and AKS’s fourth goal.

Player of the match was goalkeeper Danielle H who despite the 4-0 scoreline, played with confidence and made some decisive saves at crucial times in the game.

AKS U12 B VIII    0  - 2  Westholme U12 B VIII   POM Katie S

AKS faced an uphill struggle after conceding an early goal against a strong Westholme  B team. Despite this they worked hard to get back in the game with Katie S and Holly B winning the ball well in defence to set up chances for Holly W and Alexa M. Lily D played well under pressure as sweeper and Lily F and Kate R grew in confidence as the game progressed. A good spell in the second half saw AKS win a number of penalty corners and set up chances with Sophie F and Holly W both coming close. However, despite AKS’s best efforts, the elusive goal would not come, and the opposition scored again, almost on the whistle to make the final score 2-0. Player of the match was Katie S who led by example throughout the game defending effectively as well as supporting the forward line.
