Talented hockey players at AKS have finished their season in style representing the Lancashire U15 team in the JAC Tournaments over two weekends. After many months of training Year 9 pupils Ruby W and Tara W were selected to play for the Lancashire U15 side against the other North West counties.
The first game against West Cheshire saw the team come up against a fast skilful side and despite some great saves by Tara in goal the final score was 0 – 2. The second game saw Lancashire South as the opposition and the team raised their game and played some great passing hockey. Ruby was a constant threat up front and at half time the team were 2 ahead. The second half saw more good team play and at the final whistle the scoreline was an impressive 4 – 1 victory. The final game of the day saw Lancashire take on East Cheshire and it proved to be a close fought game. Both teams had chances to score early on and Ruby found the net for Lancashire but with legs tiring East Cheshire scored to make the final score 1 – 1.
The second weekend saw the Lancashire side face Greater Manchester and Cumbria. With Tara ruled out by illness it was left to Ruby to fly the AKS flag. Both games saw the team improve both their tactical understanding and team play and Ruby was again a threat in attack. Despite play some superb passing hockey the opposition proved too strong and the games finished 1 – 3 against Greater Manchester and 0 – 2 versus Cumbria.
Both Tara and Ruby have made great progress in their standard of play this year and County honours is a reward for their hard work throughout the season. Both now look forward to continuing to play and improve next season at AKS.
