AKS pupils represent Lancashire U12 Hockey Squads

The hockey season may be over for many players but the talented AKS youngsters continue to enjoy the game throughout the summer and recently 5 AKS Yr 6 & 7 pupils were selected to play for the Lancashire U12 teams in a tournament held in Leeds where they faced opposition from all over the North of England.

Sophie and Lisa were key players as their team faced West Yorkshire 2 in their first game with Lisa scoring the winning goal in their 1 – 0 victory. The team also defeated South Yorkshire 2 – 0 and with some great play down the right from Sophie they impressively won 4 – 0 against Humberside. In the game against West Yorkshire Lancashire dominated play and created a number of scoring opportunities but just could not find the net and had to settle for a 0 – 0 draw. In an end to end game they came out on the wrong end of a 0 – 1 scoreline against Durham 2 and also lost against North Yorkshire 2. The hard hitting North Yorks took the lead but Lancashire showed great character to come back to level the scores at 1 – 1 just after half time. It was however North Yorkshire who scored the winning goal with a great strike at a corner but with three wins and a draw it was a successful day for the team.

Another Lancashire team saw AKS pupils Layla , Jessie  and Kirtika  representing Lancashire and Layla was honoured by being named as captain of the team.

The team played 5 matches winning 3 and losing 2. Kirtika and Layla played in midfield and performed superbly defending well and then feeding the forwards with fantastic passes which enabled them to be a constant threat to the opposition. Layla was also a threat with her driving runs forward and she and Kirtika scored to earn victories against South Yorkshire, Greater Manchester and North Yorkshire. Jessie played an unusual position for her at right back and did brilliantly defending well and winning the ball back constantly and she then moved to right forward where she excelled and scored the goal of the day.

Overall a superb day of hockey enjoyed by all the players and supporters.
