Great day of athletics at Fylde & Wyre Combined Events Champinships

The AKS athletics season continued in style when 20 Year 7,8 & 9 girls competed in the Fylde & Wyre Combined Events Athletics Championships
 in which every athlete competed in a sprint, a jump, a throw and the 800m with each of their performance gaining points towards individual and 
team placings. Lots of personal best performances and a school record equalling 800m run from Maddie were the highlights of a superb afternoon
 of athletics.

Star AKS performer in the Year 8 competition was talented allrounder Olivia who scored 261 points with four superb performances to finish in 4th place overall. A great run in the 800m saw Olivia record a personal best time of 2m46s to secure 67 points and she set 60+ point performances in the 100m 14.6s, long jump 3.86m and shot 6.54m.

Maddie continued her impressive start to the season on the track where she equalled the school Yr 8 800m record with a fantastic time of 2m35s which won her the overall 800m runners-up accolade. There were also personal best performances in the 100m for Beth and Lucy 14.3s and in the 800m Amelie lowered her best by two seconds with a time of 2m53s in 800m. Year 7 Charlotte got under the magic 3 minute barrier for the first time in the 800m with a time of 2m57s as did Beth 2m58s.

In the jumps Lucy improved her best in the long jump with a leap of 4.07m and in the throws Laura improved to throw 6.60m in the shot.

With top performances by all the athletes AKS amassed a team total of 999 points to finish in runners-up spot in the team competition.

The Year 9 competition saw a host of season best performances with Anna finishing as the top AKS performer with 256 points. A personal best shot
 putt of 7.87m scored an impressive 70 points and this together with a high jump of 1.24m ,  800m 3m00s and 31.5s 200m earnt the impressive total. 
There were also superb performances in the shot from Liberty whose 6.80m was a personal best as was Ziv’s 6.35m. In the jumps events Alicia leapt 
a season’s best 3.70m in the long jump and on the track star performers were Poppy who ran 2m47s in the 800m and Prisha who ran 14.1s in the 
100m. In a close team competition with 25 points separating the 2nd and fifth position AKS finished a creditable fifth place with a team total of 930 
points.
