Year 9 Netball teams remain undefeated and claim Fylde & Wyre South League title

It was another successful day for AKS netballers as the Year 9 A team are celebrating being crowned Fylde & Wyre South league champions and the B team remain undefeated after two good wins in their final match of the term against Lytham High.

The A team started well playing fast accurate netball and went into an early lead. Great dodging from all the team enabled us to move the ball down the court with ease and hard accurate passing made it difficult for Lytham to intercept and gain possession. Good shooting from Amelie S and Lucy moved the score along so at half time we were 11- 0 ahead. After the break we continued to play good netball putting into play tactics we had worked on in training. Amelie L, Maddy B and Laura linked our attacking and defending thirds well and with us playing our best netball of the season we went further ahead. Great defending from Maddie R and Olivia made it difficult for the Lytham shooters to create many scoring opportunities and at the final whistle the score was a deserved  20-2 victory and the team not only remain undefeated all season but also claim the league trophy and winners medals. Players of the match were Olivia & Mady R for their excellent defending.

The B team were also looking to continue their winning ways and with a large squad training regularly it was pleasing to be able to include 10 players for match. With players playing in new positions it took a while for the team to gain any momentum to their play and both sides were guilty of giving possession away too easily and at half time the score was 2-2. After the break we settled and started to play more controlled netball keeping possession and working the ball down the court well. Shooters Summer and Patsy improved their conversion rate and we started to edge ahead. We gained in confidence and great work at our defending end by Leila and Anna restricted Lytham’s scoring chances. Carys defended well to regain possession for the team and we slowly edged further ahead and at full time the score had moved on to 17-2. Another well deserved victory and the B team also remain undefeated all season. Players of the match were Carys and Anna.
