After being crowned Wyre & Fylde U13 Tennis Champions AKS Year 8 pupils Laura & Amelie represented the area in the Lancashire School Games finals at the South Ribble Indoor Tennis Centre and once again rose to the challenge and came out on top.
Playing at the County Finals was a great experience for both girls, playing in a different environment, indoors and competing against different schools and other winners within Lancashire.
The tournament started with all players playing singles matches. The girls competed at a high level playing some superb tennis but they had a very limited time to settle as the short tie break matches made for small margins of error. After the round robin competition which saw both Laura & Amelie serve consistently and improve the accuracy of their groundstrokes it was an extremely tight and close finish, where matches were tied at the end of the competition. The winners were to be decided on the number of games won and Backup and Rawtenstall managed to pip first place, with AKS receiving the bronze medal.
The AKS girls went on to play the same schools in the doubles tournament. Having narrowly missed out in the singles the girls were even more determined to reach the top and raised their game to play superbly together. Laura and Amelie approached each doubles games with confidence and this saw them raise the power of their shots and the consistency of their service returns. Great camaraderie, communication and team work paid off and AKS girls proved too strong for all the opposition and they deservedly won every match and were crowned Lancashire U13 Doubles Champions.
A fantastic day of tennis with Laura and Amelie not only taking home two medals but also showing great resilience to be crowned Lancashire Doubles Champions and also importantly learning lessons throughout the day about playing tournament tennis at this level.
