Year 10 netball win again
AKS Year 9 &10 netball teams enjoyed two great games against St.Bedes in the Fylde & Wyre league.
The Year 10 team continued their winning ways and stay on track to be crowned league champions with a 24 – 12 victory against a strong and skilful St. Bedes side. With some changes in position and Ruby W and Grace S playing in our defending rather than attacking third we took a few minutes to settle and St.Bedes scored first to take an early lead. We slowly enjoyed some possession and with Hannah T and Anna H working the ball into the circle and Captain Ellie S on target we soon drew level. St.Bedes made us work hard to keep possession but great defending from Ruby W, Grace S and Amelia C frequently won back possession and with the teams evenly matched the score progressed goal for goal. As the half continued we started to play with more rhythm and structure to our play and we edged ahead thanks to great movement in the circle and shooting from both Charlotte A and Ellie S so at the break we were 12 – 5 ahead.
We started the second half superbly scoring against the centre and started to move further ahead. Ruby W worked hard and defended superbly in her new position making it difficult for the St.Bedes shooters to get any easy shots and this led to us regaining possession. With accurate netball and good dodging from all the team we converted the possession we had into goals and gradually moved further ahead. Amy S, Hannah T and Anna H linked our attack and defence well and with Ellie S improving her shot conversion rate to an even higher percentage we moved into an impressive final score of 24 – 12 . Players of the Match were Ruby W for her excellent play in defence and Ellie S for her superb shooting.
The AKS U14 Netball team enjoyed a very exciting game against St.Bedes which finished with a hard fought draw. From the whistle both teams came out determined to win and played some fast accurate netball. The score line reflected this with the lead contstantly changing hands throughout the first half but it was St Bede’s who took a slender 8-7 lead into half -time. After the break excellent movement in the circle from Alicia I and shooting from Abigail F saw us draw level and then we went into a one goal lead. With seconds to go both teams started to feel the pressure and won and lost possession but it was St.Bede’s who were able to score a final goal left the score at 13-13. A draw being a fair result after an excellent game by both teams. Abigail F was the player of the match for her excellent shooting.
