Prisha and James head on 'Road to Wimbledon'

With Wimbledon just around the corner AKS hosted the ‘Road to Wimbledon Championships’ which gives players the opportunity to win through to actually play on the hallowed Wimbledon grass courts.

At AKS the tournament was open to Year 9 pupils with 16 boys and girls taking up the challenge and enjoying the experience. After many  greatly contested matches in the knock-out stages Prisha and Eleanor won through to the  girls' final and the boys' final was between James and Yash  .

Both the finals were exciting and very closely contested with some superb tennis being played by all four players. After two very closely fought matches Prisha and James were crowned  ‘Road to Wimbledon’ Girls  and Boys Champion 2019. Both pupils now progress to the County Finals to be held on the 13th and 14th July. Runners up Eleanor and Yash now wait to see whether they too qualify for the County Final.   The County Final winners go on to compete in the National Finals at Wimbledon in August and the Runners Up of the County Finals will be invited to attend a coaching clinic on Saturday 17th August at Wimbledon with the Head Coach of the All England Club, Dan Bloxham, and a current or former international player as a guest.

Watch this space, we may see one of our AKS pupils at Wimbledon!
