House Netball Competition

AKS Inter House competitions in a wide range of sporting and other activities give opportunity for all pupils to be part of their House team and work together to compete against the other houses and gain valuable House Points towards the coveted end of year House Championship Trophy.

This week saw the culmination of the House Netball Competition with the Year 10 teams taking to the court. With the Year 10 being crowned Fylde & Wyre U15 Netball Champions before Christmas the standard of netball was superb and every pupil played for their House with some close matches and a couple of goals deciding the winners in a number of the games. The outright winners however were Gawthorpe who, led by Year 10 netball Captain Ellie S and containing four school team players amongst their ranks, proved too strong for the opposition remaining undefeated in all their matches to claim the title of Year 10 House Netball Champions. In second place, losing only to champions Gawthorpe were Leighton with Samlesbury taking third spot and Rufford fourth. All the games were played in a tremendous spirit which truly epitomised the AKS sporting tradition and ethos.

Competition was just as fierce in the other year groups with all the girls playing an excellent standard of netball. The Year 8 & 9 competitions saw Leighton take top spot and Rufford second spot with Gawthorpe third and Salmesbury fourth in the Year 9 and the positions reversed in Yr 8.

The Year 7 girls, paying in their first school house competition, showed how much they all have improved since starting netball in September with some superb netball being played and all the games closely contested. The closeness of the games was reflected in the final team positions as Leighton made it a winning treble taking the title with a tie for second spot between Samlesbury and Rufford.

Overall Leighton claimed top spot with three victories but everyone can take great credit from both the standard of play and sportsmanship displayed in the tournaments. The girls will now look forward to the House Hockey competitions at the end of the Spring term.
