Five hockey teams win against Wilmslow

AKS hockey teams continue to impress with five wins from six matches against Wilmslow High School on Saturday.

AKS U12 A VII   6  - 1  Wilmslow U12 A VII     Scorers: Charlotte T (3) Jessie A (2) Evie F  POM: Eleanor C

A controlled team performance saw the unbeaten U12A team romp to a 6-1 win against Wilmslow HS. Two early goals from on form Charlotte T were followed by a first ‘A’ team goal for Evie F. Carly W used her stick work skills to good effect on the right to create goal scoring opportunities for her team mates and her pass led to the final goal of the half which came from Jessie A.

AKS remained on top in the second half with Lisa P quick off the mark to pick up any loose balls at the back while Anna W and Eleanor C were both unbeatable in defence. Charlotte T scored again to complete her hatrick and make it 5-0. AKS’s final goal showed good vision from the four players involved. Eleanor C won the ball in defence, releasing it early to Carly W, who beat a player before passing to Charlotte T at the top of the circle. Charlotte saw Jessie A free on the left and immediately passed it to her for her to score.  Wilmslow scored an unexpected consolation goal in the last minute of the game to make the final score 6-1. The player of the match was Eleanor C for her vision and very effective and well timed passing throughout the game.

AKS U12 B VIII   2  - 0  Wilmslow U12 B VII   Scorers: Alexa M ( 2)  POM Sophie F

The U12B teams from both AKS and Wilmslow treated us to an exciting and close end to end game. AKS worked hard in defence with Lily F, Holly B and Lily D chasing back and tackling well. Sweeper, Pryanka R, not only defended well but also exploited gaps in the opposition defence when she ran forwards with the ball. Katie S supported both defence and attack well in the centre. The forward line of Alexa M, Sophie F and Holly W were fast on the break and the deadlock was broken when Alexa ran through on the right to give AKS the lead at half time.

Wilmslow came back strongly in the second half but AKS defended well and keeper Daniella H who had also played in the game before for the ‘A’ team made some good saves and clearances. AKS were unlucky not to increase their lead when a goalmouth scramble was somehow cleared by the Wilmslow defence. A second goal came after a superb through ball from Katie S went to Holly W who struck the ball just wide of the goal for Alexa to score her second goal with 5 minutes to go. This put the game beyond doubt and gave AKS a well deserved 2-0 win. Player of the match was Sophie F who with limited match play experience used her stick work skills and pace to beat players and put the opposition under pressure.

AKS U13 A VII   8  - 1  Wilmslow U13 A VII     Scorers: Patsy C (3) Katie T (3) Laura K (2)   POM Olivia M

The U13A team maintained their winning streak having not lost a match so far this season.  They started the first half slowly, with the ball moving from end to end with no sign of either team scoring.  AKS began to take control towards half time, using their width more effectively and this meant they were able to pass the ball across the D in order to score two of their goals just before half time.  They entered the second half with renewed vigour and dominated from the start.  AKS opened the scoring within minutes and continued to apply the pressure on the Wilmslow defence managing to score another six goals before the end of the game. Patsy C and Katie T  both scored hat-tricks converting on the left post and Laura K scored two on the right.

AKS U13 B VII   6  - 0  Wilmslow U13 B VII Scorers: Anna P (2) Ava N (2) Carys B (2)  POM Anna P

The U13B team played well fought game in order to beat Wilmslow.  They played extremely well and were able to take advantage of the space available to them.  Anna P drove straight through the middle from defence and scored the first goal of the half. The ball didn’t move out of our attacking half throughout most of this half.  They continued in the same manner into the second half totally dominating play.  Carys B was able to convert two more goals on the left post, with Anna N driving down the right into the D to add another with Carys B adding another two to make the final score 6-0.

AKS U14st XI    3  - 0  Wilmslow U14XI  Scorers: Holly C, Freya W Ruby W POM Alicia I & Prisha R

The U14 team started well putting the Wilmslow defence under pressure from the start and a good run and cross from Alicia I almost led to an opening goal when a Freya W shot headed goalwards but it flew just wide of the post. We deservedly went ahead in the 9th minute when another driving run from Alicia I saw her beat several players before slipping the ball to Freya W infront of goal. Her shot was well saved by the Wilmslow keeper but Holly C was on hand to force the ball over the line to make it 1 – 0. Wilmslow then started to improve their passing and create some scoring opportunities of their own and we needed a good save from keeper Eva E to maintain our lead as we went into half time break.

The second half saw us again press well and we won an early corner but the Wilmslow keeper made a fine save. Eleanor L dominated the centre of the pitch tackling well to win back the ball and good defending from Anabella K, Abigail F and Amy P thwarted the Wilmslow attacks. We were gaining in confidence and started to pass the ball more effectively and in the 8th minute we went further ahead when a superb passing move  between Abigail F, Alicia I, Grace J and Prisha R saw the ball passed to Freya W infront of goal and she gave the keeper no chance to make it 2 – 0. With Gabriella F, Prisha R and Alicia I dominating the centre of the pitch Wlimslow struggled to get the ball into our defending half and we went further ahead when another great run from midfield by Alicia I saw her find Ruby W in the circle and her great shot made it 3 – 0. We continued to dominate winning several more attacking corners and Prisha R had a great shot saved but at the final whistle the score was a deserved 3 – 0 win. Dominant displays in midfield by Alicia I and Prisha R  won them the player of the match accolade.
AKS U16 XI  0  -  2  Wilmslow U16XI  POM Emily P

Having been beaten in our first outing of the season the U16 side knew it was going to be a tough match and so it proved to be. Wilmslow started on the front foot attacking from the start and putting us under pressure. Good defending from Anna H, Kiera B, Amy F and Charlotte A made it difficult for Wilmslow to create any clear shooting opportunities and when they did Player of the Match Emily P was on hand to make some crucial saves. We defended several corners well and then started to enjoy some possession of our own with Farrah D and Sophie B dominant in the centre of the pitch. We went close to going ahead in the 16th minute when Ruby W linked well with Ellie S who bought a good save from the Wilmslow keeper. More solid defending from Amy S and all the team saw us go into the break on level terms at 0 – 0.

After the break Wilmslow again passed the ball well but we enjoyed more possession of our own and played some good passing hockey with Farah D, Hannah T and Nyah H linking well to attack down the right to win a corner. Wlimslow defended the corner well to keep the scores level and it was our opponents who took the lead in the 10th minute when a cross found a player free infront of goal and she made no mistake in finding the net to make it 1 - 0.  We continued to work hard across the pitch and Emily T linked well with Hannah T on the right to again put Wilmslow under pressure but we could not find the net and a lucky deflected goal late in the game made the final score 2 – 0 to Wilmslow.
