Evie on target again and raising money for charity
Talented Year 8 pupil Evie competes in National, Regional and County archery competitions across England & North Wales. She is rated 4th in the UK for Olympic Bare Bow class and currently holds 5 National records and over 130 Regional & County junior archery records. She is a member of Assheton Bowmen, Manchester, shoots for Lancashire Juniors and is sponsored by Archery World, Preston.
Like many other AKS sporting youngsters Evie's sport has been curtailed since March but this has not stopped her keeping on target as well as raising money for charity. Because of the pandemic all UK archery competitions have been cancelled for the foreseeable future. Having only shot one practice archery shoot since February, Evie decided to enter the Archery GB Summer Metrics Postal Competition and to also take the opportunity to raise money for Bury Cancer Support Centre.
The Archery GB postal competition is where archers from all over the country compete on set distances at their own clubs and send their results in to AGB for verification and classification. Shooting an Olympic Recurve Bare Bow, Evie set out to raise funds by unofficially beating her own Lancashire and Northern Counties records and the current GB record of 560. The archery round for her age group involves shooting 36 arrows at 20 metres & 36 arrows at 10 metres and Evie was sponsored by friends, relatives and fellow archers from Assheton Bowmen, Manchester.
After a practice shoot the previous day, and in a strong westerly breeze, she embarked on the challenge and soon picked up where she left off in February. Evie scored a fantastic 642 points from her 72 arrows to unofficially beat both her Lancashire & North records and as well as unofficially breaking the UK record by an incredible 82 points, and in doing so, scored two perfect 6 gold ends. Evie also raised an amazing £960, many thanks to all who supported this worthy cause.
