Welcome to our new Head of Religious Studies, Liam Donovan
Liam Donovan: Head of Religious Studies
Liam has spent the last 3 years teaching in Shanghai working for Dulwich College International, as Head of the House System and Head of Humanities. Prior to this, Liam has worked in two Lancashire schools as an RS teacher and lead practitioner for teaching and learning, alongside being an GCSE RS examiner.
Liam graduated from Lancaster University with a degree in Religious Studies and is excited to share his passion and enthusiasm for religious studies with the students at AKS. Liam is looking forward to being part of the AKS community and getting involved in the school’s co-curricular programme.
Liam enjoys all sports, in particular football, supporting his home-town club Burnley FC, and cricket. He also enjoys hiking, running and playing squash. He is eager to get involved in assisting with some of the sports fixtures at AKS Lytham.
Liam has returned from Shanghai to live in Poulton. Liam and his wife, who is also a teacher, are currently awaiting the arrival of their first child, who is due to be born at the beginning of February.
Liam has a clear vision for religious studies at AKS that is focused around inquiry-based learning, ensuring that every student understands and benefits from the process of learning and not just the outcome. Developing evidence and reasoning to reach conclusions, answering the ultimate questions about life, death and cultural understandings. Liam wants students to embrace open questions and develop skills in problem solving that will become invaluable for their further studies and beyond. Liam hopes to raise the profile of religious studies in the school, making cross-curricular links throughout the school and ensuring that students see the academic and cultural value of RS in our modern world.
