Food Glorious Food! Award Winning Catering at AKS Lytham

AKS Lytham is the newly crowned ‘Independent School Caterer of the Year’ and just reward for the hard work and dedication the catering team put in everyday at the school.  The Catering Manager, Steve Shepherd, and his team take full advantage of working in a school environment breathing their ‘culinary magic’ into every aspect of the school day and enriching the co-curricular programme.  Steve and his team are a huge asset to the school, and never turn down an opportunity to bring cooking skills, the culture of food, healthy eating and sustainable concepts into the classroom or learning programme.  This includes regular cookery clubs for the junior and senior students (so popular that the parents also want to participate!), baking lessons in the Junior School, and the development of a kitchen garden.  Here we have been growing of strawberries and many other fruits and vegetables with the students and a focus on the importance of food for different religions in GCSE RE  and MFL.  Steve has also organised foraging courses, and sessions with the Sixth Form to prepare them for life at university.

The team is committed to a sustainable approach and are a big advocate of the school’s Eco-committee helping AKS to achieve the Bronze Award – the dining room has recently gone plastic free.  The school PTA also value AKS Catering as they are always prepared to contribute to the success of school events; in particular at the Christmas and Summer Fairs, fund raising balls which have been expertly catered, and the management of a new Pavilion Café that provides a social space for our parents on a daily basis.

Well done AKS catering, we are all very proud of you.  You can find out more about award winning AKS by visiting our website or following us on Facebook.
