Over the last five years Mr Walton and his family have not only become a central part of our community but have played a key role in building it. Through his leadership, our school community has become truly integrated and able to capitalise on the strengths from our three heritage schools. Mr Walton’s dedication to build something special here at AKS is symbolised in the many developments that have taken place during his tenure. These include the renovation of our sports Pavilion, which has gone from being a disused building into becoming a community hub, enjoyed daily by students, staff and parents, and which acts as a focal point for sports fixtures at weekends.
As well as growing and integrating our community, Mr Walton was also instrumental in articulating what are now known as the core characteristics of AKS: Academic Ambition, Individual Pathways and, Success and Value. These defining characteristics were agreed through a typically democratic process which he undertook to reveal what lies at the heart of AKS and distinguishes our school. In addition, he spearheaded the decision to become a Round Square school, has encouraged partnerships with many community groups and support for good causes, both at home and away. This breadth of engagement, broader education and outward focus builds on our track record of academic excellence.
Together, these initiatives have created a legacy which reflects the holistic education he wanted for his own children and which remains the hallmark of AKS – enabling us to provide an outstanding education for every child in our care. This is illustrated by our recent International Women’s Day conference, success in the national Tycoon in Schools competition, as well as being a contributory factor in being selected to host the 2019 Rotary Respect Awards and to site a Peace Pole.
Mrs Walton has also played a central role in our school community, as the much-loved Chair of the Ladies Luncheon Club, tireless supporter of our PTA events and school initiatives, such as International Day, Club Day and in welcoming new parents into our school community.
We wish the Walton family all the best for their return to Thailand this summer and look forward to welcoming our new Headmaster, Mr Harrow and his family into our community.
