It has been the policy at AKS for a number of years that no pupil will leave the school not being able to perform CPR. We have been affiliated with British Heart Foundation and Northwest Ambulance service since 2009. To date over 1500 pupils and staff have been trained in CPR.
Today we were privileged to have Anthony Freeman, Head of Resuscitation and Steve Clift Resuscitation Manager from Blackpool Victoria Hospital NHS Trust. They awarded 78 of our Year 9 pupils their Heart Start Certificates. These pupils have completed a British Heart Foundation course which gives them a recognised qualification in CPR.
Well done to all Year 9 on completing the course!
It was a busy day for First Aid, as that afternoon Year 12 were also learning about the principles and practicalities of CPR and using a defibrillator. As part of Sixth Form Personal Enrichment, all Y12’s will gain a recognised certificate in First Aid at Work. We consider this a really important, and impressive, life skill to attain and are delighted to be able to run this course.
