Raise over £4000 in 6 weeks of trading
As part of the national Tycoons in Schools competition, run By Peter Jones of Dragons Den fame, the Sixth Formers at AKS were delighted to hand cheques over to their chosen charities. The Corkin’ company upcycled champagne corks into Christmas decorations and held craft workshops at Trinity Hospice. The headed the national leader board on profit margin and also won the video competition that documented the experience gained from running their own enterprise. They raised over £1700 for the hospice. The Snowglobe group made unique snowblobes out of wine glasses, production and sales techniques were finely honed and enabled the group to donate over £1000 to Skool of Street, a Blackpool based charity focussing on street dance and music. Moreover, Snowglobe was also able to sponsor the twinning of 4 toilets for the Fylde Soroptomist group and this went someway to help the whole school to be the first in the country to twin every toilet. Hydrostyle produced hand painted Christmas baubles and mobile phone cases using the eye-catching technique of Hydro dipping. This turned out to be high quality product and helped them raise nearly £800 for Donna’s Dream House. Finally, the Lytham Driftwood group sourced driftwood from Fairhaven beach and upcycled this into candle holders and paintings of local scenes. Their £400 profit was equally split between Young Minds, a teenage mental health charity and AKS action – the schools proactive charity group supporting local charities and a village in Malawi. This was a fantastic effort from all of those involved and they gained much from the experience of trying to establish and run a successful enterprise.
