A Golden Day

On 22nd May seven AKS students were awarded their Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award certificates at a ceremony in the gardens of Buckingham Palace.  Due to the large number of AKS students receiving their Gold Award, Mrs Winterflood, AKS Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Co-ordinator was also invited. The awards were presented by Prince Edward, the Countess of Wessex and Princess Eugenie, with the Countess of Wessex meeting the AKS group.

It was a beautiful afternoon and a fitting end to the hard work, determination and commitment each of these students have proven for their Duke of Edinburgh’s awards over the last five years.

Mrs Winterflood commented ‘I am delighted to be here and share in the celebrations, each award winner has put a tremendous amount of effort into achieving their award, not only completing tough expeditions, often in challenging weather conditions, but taking part in sporting activities, learning new skills and volunteering in the local community. Well done to them all!’
