Silver Walk - March 2019 - A Great Day to Remember
It was with much fear and trepidation that 22 Silver DofE participants and 4 leaders set out on their journey north to the Lake District driving through the floods with the rain bouncing off the minibus roof. On arrival at the start of the walk in Staveley near Kendal everyone became much more optimistic as the rain stopped, blue sky appeared and the sun started to shine. We were fortunate as it stayed dry for the rest of the walk. This certainly helped everyone's enjoyment as all were able to get some fresh air and exercise after their mock exams, and of course, practise their map-reading skills. Despite some occasional challenges of climbing over high stiles, crossing fast-flowing streams and avoiding slipping on the muddy slopes, it was a valuable experience for the students and excellent preparation for their three day Qualifying expedition at Easter in the Yorkshire Dales.
Many thanks, Mrs W.
