A thrilling win for U12s and progression to Quarter Finals of Lancashire Cup

AKS Lytham 9/58 def Hutton GS 56 ao

Our U12 AKS team had a thrilling game of cricket to end half term!

AKS elected to bowl on a well-worn wicket which paid immediate dividends with Xavier (4 overs, 4 wickets for 13 runs) picking up early wickets in a great partnership of bowling with Jacob (4 overs, 1 wicket for 21 runs). Oliver (3 overs, 2 wickets for 5 runs) and Zakk (3 overs, 3 wickets for 12 runs) were also very effective in tandem. AKS were able to dismiss Hutton for 56 and set about being positive to ‘go and get the runs!’ With an impressive opening bowler from Hutton, AKS were forced to bat smartly, taking runs when on offer, but being vigilant in keeping his good deliveries at bay – Jacob and Taym showed a great amount of fortitude and the whole team was proud of their courage.

Contributions flowed throughout the batting lineup – every player got a few and ran hard, but wickets fell at regular intervals, so the result was always in question. AKS needed 5 to win with 3 wickets in hand and a nail-biting 5 over period ensued, with all spectators on the edge of their seats. Hutton were able to stem the flow of runs and AKS batters refused to give in.  AKS score a couple and it was 3 to win. The opener came back on and took 2 wickets from his final over with no runs given.

Our last 2 batters required 3 runs to win. Some scary moments took place, with some indecision about running and trying to hit the ball hard. Hamza kept us all guessing – missing one, hitting one to a fielder, and then BANG! Hamza hit a big drive-over cover that went sailing toward the boundary. The boys were running like mad as the fielders give chase. The fielder took a drive and knocked over the boundary flag, which gave Hamza 4 runs and AKS the match!

AKS U12s now progress to the Lancashire Cup Quarter Final after half term. Well done boys! Mr Castellas
